ORIOLES
Mora, Hernandez return to Orioles Fri, 16 May 2008 23:19:22 GMT
Melvin Mora's sore right shoulder responded well enough to throwing drills, putting the third baseman back in the Baltimore Orioles' lineup for Friday's opener of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. Catcher Ramon Hernandez was also back in the lineup after he experienced no pain in his tender left wrist while swinging during batting practice.
Baltimore Orioles Inside Pitch Fri, 16 May 2008 18:16:46 GMT
Coming out of their second day off in four days, the Orioles are looking forward to their first interleague games of the season. Because they are hosting the neighboring Washington Nationals, the Orioles pitchers have not had to worry about getting in any batting practice since designated hitters are used in American League ballparks. Manager Dave Trembley masterfully circumvented the question about whether he likes the idea of interleague play, but he was positive in his remarks about it.
Baltimore Orioles Notes, Quotes Fri, 16 May 2008 18:16:46 GMT
--RF Nick Markakis was hitting just .167 with runners in scoring position and fewer than two outs before his RBI single in the sixth inning Wednesday. The RBI was his first since he hit a three-run homer May 8 and was also his first RBI on anything but a home run since May 2, when he hit a solo homer and a run-scoring double.
Baltimore Orioles Roster Report Fri, 16 May 2008 18:16:46 GMT

He is day-to-day. RHP Rocky Cherry (right shoulder strain) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie on May 14.   Nationals-Orioles Preview Fri, 16 May 2008 00:20:49 GMT
The Baltimore Orioles gained a lot of confidence from sweeping a series from the reigning World Series champions. They hope to avoid a letdown Friday night when they open a three-game set with the Washington Nationals as both teams begin interleague play in the "Beltway Series." The Orioles (21-19) have won five of their last six games after enduring a season-high five-game losing streak.
NL primed to take power from AL (finally) Thu, 15 May 2008 16:40:35 GMT
The AL has been better for awhile (see: interleague record, World Series, All-Star games). But Dayn Perry says that could soon change.
Orioles' Hoey out for season Wed, 14 May 2008 23:40:08 GMT
Jim Hoey, who pitched in 23 games for Baltimore last year, will miss the rest of the season following shoulder surgery. Hoey had shoulder inflammation during spring training after going 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA in three appearances. The right-hander had difficulty getting loose before pitching, a problem that continued after he was sent to the team's minor league camp in late March. He was operated on May 4. "He's another power arm in this organization. He's still young enough.
  Orioles 6, Red Sox 3 Wed, 14 May 2008 23:31:10 GMT
In years past, the Baltimore Orioles probably would have wilted against the Boston Red Sox after falling behind by three runs and watching Manny Ramirez make an incredible play in left field. It didn't happen in Wednesday's 6-3 victory, and the Orioles insist it's not going to happen anymore. Bring it on Red Sox and Yankees, or anyone else who thinks this is the same team that has endured 10 straight losing seasons. "They're not intimidated.
Minor league report: Jones might not make it Thu, 15 May 2008 17:06:15 GMT
The Orioles have inexplicably said that Matt Wieters is going to stay at High-A all year, yet he's hot as a pistol. Tyler Clippard is actually showing signs of life after being considered all but dead and buried, and Garrett Jones might be ready for the big hook.
