Couple of quick updates for you guys as the Ravens leave Westminster, breaking training camp Saturday morning:
* Nose guard Kelly Gregg (knee) isn't playing Sunday against the New York Giants as a precautionary measure. Also not expected to play: outside linebacker Antwan Barnes (high ankle sprain), tight end Daniel Wilcox (ankle sprain), offensive guard Chris Chester (sprained foot), running back P.J Daniels (hamstring), offensive tackle Steve Edwards (knee) in addition to three players on the physically unable to perform list: offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (turf toe), linebackers Dan Cody (knee surgery) and Mike Smith (shoulder surgery).
* Plus, wide receiver Derrick Mason (shoulder) told me he will be a game-time decision, but his injury is minor.
* Chester could return to practice as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday. Rookie first-round pick Ben Grubbs will start in his place.
* Meanwhile, the Ravens' annual King Ugly winner is Barnes, second-place is defensive tackle Anthony Bryant and third-place choice is cornerback Willie Gaston.
* The rookie show included a little person imitating assistant offensive line coach Greg Roman.
* The rookies were hazed after practice by the veterans, doused with Gatorade, dunked in cold tubs of ice water, sprayed with strawberry syrup and baby powder and taped to goal posts.
* Rookie tackle Jared Gaither, 6-9, 350 pounds, was too big to be taped up. The vets got some tape on him, but he was too massive to control. Ultimately, the Ravens' vets, led by linebacker Terrell Suggs as the ring leader, taped receivers Matt Willis and Yamon Figurs to the south end goal post along with quarterback Troy Smith and linebacker Prescott Burgess.
* Fullback Le'Ron McClain was repeatedly dunked in a cold tub of water. The rookies eventualy escaped with the help of offensive coordinator Rick Neuheisel's handy pen knife to cut themselves free.
* The veterans chased down fleeing rookies with a golf cart and it was pandemonium on the field.
* Total attendance for training camp, which Brian Bilick thanked the fans for, was nearly 100,000 -- which includes the 25,000 that attended the Ravens' scrimmage against the Redskins. He described camp as the team's best ever and phenomenal on and off the field.
