Inter-League Play

I know there are a lot of opinions out there about Inter-League Play in MLB, but allow me to add one more.

It seems that baseball "purists," whatever that means, are completely against this concept. They like the "good ole days" when the two leagues only play one another in only the All-Star game and the World Series, but those days are long gone.

I would like to take baseball's inter-league play one step further. I don't think we need designated points of inter-league play. In addition to that, we need more of it.

Inter-league play should be incorported into the MLB schedule, randomly throughout the regular season. I'd rather see the Cubs/Twins, Mets/Angels, or the Rays/D-Backs than see the Yankees and Red Sox go at it nine times before the All-Star break.

I think baseball has already embarked upon a new day, and it's time to "truly" get rid of the two-league concept. Moving umpires from the American to the National League isn't enough. Baseball is still divided in so many ways, and a great way to destroy that division is by scheduling without league boundaries.

Again, I know there are a lot of "purists" out there who are going to disagree with that, and that's fine. However, the NFL has prospered with a one league concept. Maybe it's time for MLB to get over itself and join the rest of the 21st century.

John. I love guys like you. You continue to listen and read, only to find fault. You are a miserable individual. Why don't you get a life. You and the others who are around you that find things like this funny. Last I checked, there is an invention called "spell check." That was invented because people who are smarter than you, realized that people make mistakes. Our web system does not have that device for blogs.

As far as my butchering the language is concerned. If I were to say "Balmer" and "Hon," I would be a good ole boy you could relate to. But, because my language may not have been the language of choice in your neighborhood, it's looked upon as ignorance. You are an embarrassment. Usually, I wouldn't even comment, but I figured I'd give others a chance to laugh at you along with me.

Rob, if they are going to have inter-league play I would love to see a rule change. If they play a game in an American League park, I think they should use National League rules...meaning the pitchers bat. And the reverse would happen in the National League parks. We, as Oriole fans, see the Designated Hitter all of the time. I would enjoy the games much better if the pitcher batting in the line-up would factor in!

Interleague By Matt Bender on 5/16/2008 10:14 PM

I'd like to see a rule change ... someone please put an end to the DH forever. Deposit the DH in the garbage with all of the steroids from days gone by.

As for throughout the season interleague ... it's a great idea. They should stagger the series, starting slow, one or two at the beginning an end ... three or four in May and August ... five or six in June and July.

This would allow for better scheduling and six five-team divisions. The 15-team leagues don't work now because two teams wouldn't have anyone to play.

This blog has inspired me to write my own on the subject. Soon.

Rob, I just can't seem to get on board with with inter-league play. It just seems wrong. Guess I'm getting old. As for John and his type...YOUR ignorance is embarrassing. Please get help before you breed. Please!!!

Re: Inter-League Play By Troy on 5/21/2008 11:12 AM

This is year "12" of inter-league play... year "12". Which means inter-league play is in its adolescence. The decision along with a wild card entry was conceived by Selig I suppose, to enhance excitement from the paying customers and it kept teams that otherwise wouldn't have been in playoff contention..in contention. Inter-league play still breeds interest in some circumstances. Just like death, taxes, and high gas prices...inter-league play is here to stay.
