It’s time to honor some local sports “saints” with our #WNSTSweet16

11. Eddie Murray

This is one you might be caught off guard by. Perhaps you’re not aware of some of the significant contributions the 3,000 hit/500 home run club member made to our city.

Admittedly, I was not aware of the Carrie Murray Nature Center (pictured above) in Gwynn Falls, which was created after a “generous donation” the Orioles Hall of Famer made to the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks.

Later in life, Murray donated all of the proceeds from sales of his 504 Cabernet to the Baltimore Community Foundation.

    I seem to recall when he was inducted into the Ravens Ring of Honor that Michael McCrary was mentioned as one of the most significant charitable athletes in Baltimore sports history.
