11. Drew Nicholas hits the game-winning shot as Maryland avoids an upset in the 2003 NCAA Tournament

The defending national champions had visions of making another deep run in the NCAA Tournament, but North Carolina-Wilmington had all but knocked the Terps out in the opening round, holding a 73-72 lead with five seconds remaining and Maryland needing to go the length of the floor.

Gary Williams wanted the ball to go to Steve Blake, but the Seahawks swarmed him and shooting guard Drew Nicholas got the inbound pass instead. Driving the length of the floor before launching a fallaway 3 with under a second left, Nicholas provided one of the most exciting moments in NCAA history as his shot hit nothing but net to send the Terps to the second round.

UNC-Wilmington freshman John Goldsberry was the standout performer of the night with 26 points and 8-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc, but Nicholas will be forever remembered in Maryland lore for his clutch shot.
