“Not a low blow…”

October 27, 2008 | Drew Forrester

I know it’s probably too late to throw his name in the hat for November 4, but what the heck:

Ian Eagle for President.

Yep, that’s right.  Ian Eagle of CBS Sports for President.

During the latter stages of yesterday’s 29-10 Ravens’ win, the “blimp cam” settled in on a shot of vacant Oriole Park at Camden Yards.  A tarp covered the field and the empty ballpark looked dreary and drab, with no green grass shining in the late day sunshine and no people in the stadium.

And then, Ian Eagle uttered something that is going to become the brand new catch-phrase for those of us who are baseball fans in Baltimore.

As the camera’s eye reached the empty stadium, Ian Eagle remarked:  “and there’s Oriole Park at Camden Yards…of course, it’s October now and they’re not playing baseball here in Baltimore…” – he then paused for a second and added, “Not a low blow, just a fact.”

“Not a low blow…just a fact.”

Holy Perfect-Description.

“Not a low blow…just a fact.”

I love it.  I can now continue to observe the O’s with my keen and balanced eye and when the time comes to offer a criticism, I can follow it up with…”Not a low blow, just a fact.”

Speaking of the O’s, I’m hearing strong rumors that a public unveiling of the new road uniforms will take place the week of November 10.  I’m trying to find out all the details and pass them along to you since the O’s P.R. machine isn’t passing out any information.  It will be a happy day for me, personally, since the team is FINALLY doing the right thing and restoring the word “BALTIMORE” to the front of the road shirt for the first time since 1973.

That’s another thing I can strike off of my list:  “THINGS I NEED TO GET THE ORIOLES TO DO”.

I have, of course, been the team’s chief antagonist when it comes to putting BALTIMORE on the road jersey.  I admit that.  But my heart has always been in the right place.

And they finally caved in and did the right thing – for me AND you.

“Not a low blow…just a fact.”
