The battle for first place in the A.L. East as the Blue Jays (7-5) take on the Orioles (7-5)
Last Game: Orioles return home after finishing off a six game road trip with a 6-2 loss to the Rays on Sunday afternoon. The Orioles went 2-4 on the road trip taking the first game in both Texas and Tampa Bay.
Bullpen : After being a stingy strength for this team, the bullpen allowed 9 runs during the road trip and took two losses. The Orioles will use one of their usual bullpen guys on Monday as they begin a seven game home stand.
Orioles bats: Orioles bats did not do much to help their pitching during the road trip. Here are the numbers on the Orioles bats at home versus on the road.
Road: .228 avg 46 h 21 rbi 5hr 35k’s
Home: 277avg 53h 29rbi 7hr 31k’s
Matt Albers: (1-0 0.00 ERA) Will get a spot start for the Orioles vs Blue Jays. He is 1-0 this year with his win coming on April 5th versus Seattle. Last year he was 3-11 with a 5.71 ERA for the Astros. On the Blue Jays roster, he has only faced David Eckstein. Here are the numbers on that matchup.
Dustin McGowan: (0-0 3.27 ERA) Looking for his first win in three starts this year. In six games in his career, including three starts, he is 0-2 with a 7.52 ERA versus the Orioles. Here are the numbers on the matchup against Orioles hitters.
Back to Baltimore: Although this will not BJ Ryan’s first trip to Baltimore since going to the Blue Jays in free agency, he is back with the Blue Jays after having Tommy John surgery. BJ came into yesterday’s game and got the save for Toronto, his first since April 11, 2007. Ryan was always one of my favorite players to cover when he was here with the Orioles.
Last year versus the Blue Jays: The Orioles lost 10 of the 18 games versus Toronto last year and have lost the season series six out of the last seven years.
