The Orioles made a pair of minor-league signings official Sunday in announcing agreements with relief pitcher Luis Ayala and infielder Brett Wallace.
Both will report to minor league camp as Ayala returns to the Orioles to improve the organization’s bullpen depth and Wallace provides another corner infield option at the minor-league level. Ayala was released by Washington last week while the 27-year-old Wallace was let go by Houston earlier in the month.
Wallace was 2-for-14 with eight strikeouts this spring and never realized his potential at the major league level despite being drafted with the 13th overall pick in the 2008 draft. He is a career .242 hitter with 29 home runs and 102 runs batted in in 1,077 career plate appearances in the big leagues.
The agreement with Ayala was reported several days ago as he returns to the Orioles after spending 2012 and the start of the 2013 season in Baltimore before being traded to Atlanta last April.
