Orioles remain in holding pattern with free-agent outfielder Colvin

Despite reports last week that the Orioles were adding 28-year-old Tyler Colvin to what was already a crowded outfield situation, his status remains up in the air after he underwent a physical late last week.

According to MASN, the initial news that the former Rockies outfielder was signing a major league deal with the Orioles was “premature,” and it remains unclear what his status will be with spring training quickly approaching.

Colvin hit only .160 in 75 big-league at-bats in a 2013 season split between the Rockies and Triple-A Colorado Springs , but the left-handed hitter had a career season in 2012 when he hit .290 with 18 home runs and 72 runs batted in in 420 at-bats. The outfielder also showed good power with the Cubs in 2010, hitting 20 home runs and posting an .816 OPS.
