Sing it with me – “Bye, bye Mr. Felix Pie, drove my Chevy…”

May 27, 2009 | Drew Forrester

With one swing of the bat late this afternoon, it became official:  Nolan Reimold is the Orioles left fielder.

For now.  And, maybe, for the future.

Reimold hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning today to give Baltimore an improbable 12-10 win at OPACY after the Blue Jays roughed up Danys Baez in the top half of the inning to post a 10-8 lead.  Reimold’s big blow, his 4th home run of the year, gave the Birds a 3-game sweep of plummeting Toronto.

By the way, where are all the experts who said, “You can’t bring up Reimold and let him play…it might shatter his confidence”?

And where are all the card-carrying members of the Felix Pie Fan Club?  You all can drive your Chevy to the levy as well.

The Andy MacPhail desperation slice of Felix Pie will be covered up by Reimold’s performance for the rest of 2009 and when the dust settles in September, don’t be surprised if Reimold is a 15-home run, 50 RBI rookie who plays a decent left field.

I love it when I get the chance to say “told you so…” – particularly when it comes to THIS matter, because I bellyached long and hard out of spring training that Reimold should come north with the team…either at the expense of the now-departed Ryan Freel or the likely-to-depart-soon Pie.
