Time for a 10-game sit-out. It’s your privilege…

June 18, 2007 | Drew Forrester

Blogging while on the air isn’t the best way to do (both) things, but Paul in Dundalk called this morning and spoiled my planned mid-morning blog.  He mentioned that he thinks the fans should stop going to the ballpark as a method of showing their discontent with what’s going on with the Orioles.  That’s EXACTLY what I was going to blog after this morning’s show, so I might as well go ahead and throw it out there now, at 7:00 am.

I’m advocating a 10-game “sit-out” by the fans.

Please understand something:  I’ve NEVER, EVER suggested that fans stop going to the ballpark, even when I’ve been most critical and even when the team has suffered on-the-field and disassociated themselves with the fans off-the-field.  So for all the grief I get from the orange-wearing-glasses crowd for being “too tough” or “too negative”, please keep in mind I’ve never recommended staying away from the ballpark.

That changes today, albeit on a temporary basis.

The O’s leave today for the west coast and a 6-game run against San Diego and Arizona, then return home to face the Yankees and Angels.  The home series begins on Tuesday, June 26 vs. New York and extends through July 1 against L.A.  After a 7-game road stint against the White Sox and Rangers, Baltimore returns home for four against the White Sox, July 12-15.

I’m encouraging all of you who are fed up with EVERYTHING about the organization to stay away for the next 10 home games.

If you want to return to the ballpark on Tuesday, July 24 against Tampa Bay, that’s perfectly cool.

In fact, I’ll even go this far.  I’m going to stay away for 10 games as well.  How’s that?  And I’ll go back on July 24 against Tampa Bay.

The fans have put up with this tom-foolerly long enough.  Losing baseball, poor treatment from the club, no apparent interest in giving the fans what they want…all of those things have become trademarks of the last 3-5 years, if not longer.

Now is a great opportunity to say, “I’m not going to watch this stuff anymore and I’m not going to let you treat me like this anymore.”

Stay away for the next 10 home games.

I’m going to, I promise.

Go back on July 24 if you want.  I will.

But stay away for 10 home games and send a message.

They’ve been sending one to you for the last few years.

It’s time for US to send one to them.
