For Some Reason, This Loss to Pittsburgh Stings More

that would have probably lead to a number of excused work/school absences Monday.

Obviously that won’t be the case.

It figures it would be Steelers S Troy Polamalu that would make the game-changing play.

As Suggs said after the game, “it just didn’t feel good when I saw that hair at the line of scrimmage.”

It’s funny, because no one else in Baltimore ever feels good when they see that hair ANYWHERE. There’s an obvious reason for that.

After LB LaMarr Woodley recovered the fumble of Flacco forced by Polamalu, Roethlisberger held tough to find RB Isaac Redman (who played college football at nearby Bowie State) for a 3rd down touchdown to put the Steelers ahead 13-10.

Despite the fact that Flacco had already managed one late come from behind win against the Steelers already this season, the unthinkable way the game fell apart left a gut feeling that there wasn’t another one coming Sunday night. A 4th and 2 incompletion at the feet of TE Ed Dickson solidified those fears.

At 8-4, the season is FAR from over for the Baltimore Ravens. They’re still very much alive in the AFC playoff race, and could still find a way to win the AFC North if they can string together victories to end the season and get some help from the Steelers’ remaining opponents.

Of course, none of that REALLY matters right now.

The more likely scenario is that the Ravens just lost the chance to host their first playoff game since a 2006 divisional round contest against the Indianapolis Colts. The more likely scenario is that the road to Dallas just got much longer (and probably a bit more bumpy). The more likely scenario is that in the span of three minutes, the season just took a drastic turn.

That’s why many of us in Baltimore are going to feel dejected at best this week.

This COULDN’T happen. Not like this. Not to this team.

This was supposed to go another way.

I know I often preach the significance of “perspective”, but even I will be forced to admit that it is difficult to imagine me finding it any time soon.

I said seven days earlier that we’d find out everything we needed to know about the Baltimore Ravens when they played the Steelers.

I hope I was wrong.
