A day after visiting the Ravens in Owings Mills, free-agent guard Evan Mathis is considering an offer from the Ravens.
Considered by some to be the next best guard on the market after Ben Grubbs signed a five-year contract with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, Mathis has had serious discussions with the Ravens as well as the Eagles. The 30-year-old became a full-time starter for the first time in his first season in Philadelphia last year after spending the three previous seasons in the AFC North as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. .
“[The] Ravens have offered a nice deal,” Mathis said in an email. “I’m flying back to Arizona to think about it and discuss it with my family.”
Mathis holds a bond with general manager Ozzie Newsome as both are products of the University of Alabama. The offensive lineman said the Ravens general manager is a family friend in an interview with AM 1570 WNST on Wednesday.
