“Last Day of School” Ravens Passing Camp Notebook

June 10, 2010 | Glenn Clark

Sorry for the late entry today, as we were dealing with internet troubles at 1 Winning Drive today in Owings Mills. Here are some notes from the final day of OTA’s today…

-There were a NUMBER of veterans absent from practice today. Amongst them were Matt Birk, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Domonique Foxworth, Willis McGahee, Le’Ron McClain, Terrell Suggs, Jared Gaither, Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton, Trevor Pryce, Haloti Ngata, Jarret Johnson, Kelly Gregg and Kelly Talavou. Some are injured clearly, but most were non-injury related.

-Practice today had a “last day of school”-type feel. The players were in shorts during practice and were having fun and vocal throughout. The locker room had even more of a “last day of school” feel, as a group of players-lead by Troy Smith, Tavares Gooden, Antwan Barnes and Haruki Nakamura were throwing dodgeballs and dancing. With today being the final day of OTA’s before Training Camp opens in late July at McDaniel College; the veterans were certainly happy to be heading home for a while.

-While the veterans are headed home, John Harbaugh was quick to point out that he expects a number of them to stay around the facility for workouts, treatment, etc. Harbaugh pointed out that Anquan Boldin had asked him about how he could continue to participate. The rookies will be back at the facility next week for formal workouts, but those will not be open to the media.

-Harbaugh was pleased with the work done by tryout DB’s Ken Lucas, Ken Hamlin and Walt Harris over the last two days. That being said, none of the three have been immediately offered contracts by the team. Ken Lucas made it very clear he wanted to be here, knowing the team has a real chance of reaching the Super Bowl.

-The Ravens released WR’s Chris Hannon and Maurice Price today. Price probably saw the writing on the wall when the team assigned Shayne Graham his number (17).

-Speaking of Shayne Graham, the most exciting part of practice today certainly came during the kicking competition at the end. Graham and Billy Cundiff were in a “anything you can do I can do better” mode. Both kickers connected from 51 and 60 yards out, with Cundiff adding a 54 yarder. Cundiff’s 60 yard try split the uprights, while Graham needed the right post to get his through. Graham is scheduled to join Drew Forrester tomorrow morning at 9:40 on “The Morning Reaction” on AM1570 WNST.

-Head on over to the BuyAToyota.com Audio Vault here at WNST.net this afternoon to hear from John Harbaugh, as well as Joe Flacco and Ray Rice. Just click on the “Audio” tab at the top of the page.

The Ravens will not gather together again formally until Rookies and QB’s report to McDaniel College on July 26th; but as always-make sure you’re following us on Twitter (@WNST) for all of the latest news to come from the team.
