Live From Owings Mills: Notes From Ravens Passing Camp

May 18, 2010 | Glenn Clark

OWINGS MILLS, Md A few notes today worth passing along from 1 Winning Drive, where the Baltimore Ravens continue their first “Passing Camp” of the offseason:

-OT Jared Gaither was not present today, and Head Coach John Harbaugh said that he has “bruising” on the bottom of his foot. No timetable was given for his return.

-Also not present of note was QB Troy Smith. He’s not being dealt anywhere, he apparently had his tonsils taken out and will miss two weeks. Harbaugh says it may stem from the terrible illness he dealt with prior to the 2008 season.

-Veterans not in attendance who we presume just “skipped” the voluntary Camp: LB Ray Lewis, LB Terrell Suggs, RB Willis McGahee, WR Derrick Mason, DE Trevor Pryce

-DT Kelly Gregg (shoulder) and DT Haloti Ngata (chest) were absent as they continue their rehab. OT Ramon Harewood-who was injured during mini-camp did not practice (knee). DT Brandon McKinney also did not practice with a disc injury.

-LB Jarret Johnson (shoulder) and WR Mark Clayton (shoulder) were dressed and on the field, but neither was actually involved with real drills.

-CB Lardarius Webb (knee) was on the field and doing significant running drills. Harbaugh said Webb has been on the field every day, Harbaugh said doctors believe he is “well ahead of schedule.” Harbaugh also said CB Fabian Washington (knee) who was NOT present is “ahead of schedule.”

-DE Paul Kruger was not in attendance, no reason was given for his absence. DT Terrence Cody spent practice on the sideline with an unspecified injury-he was unavailable following practice.

-WR Marcus Smith (knee) and RB Matt Lawrence (knee) were present but only ran on the side, each are rehabbing from injuries that cut their 2009 season short.

-S Ed Reed (groin/hip) was not present, he has still not formally told the team whether or not he is playing this season, but is expected to.

-WR Maurice Price was injured during a run play in practice-it appeared to be his left leg.

-QB Joe Flacco told us he was a bit “leaner” than at the end of the season; and continued to downplay the hip injury that bothered him last year. He believes the team wants to see him play a few pounds heavier than he is currently; which is in the 240 range.

-K Billy Cundiff is unfazed by reports that Ravens want to add another kicker, relaying that he has control over everything he does while he’s here. Cundiff made roughly 50% of his long FG tries during practice.

-We saw a LOT of WR Demetrius Williams in practice today, especially with Mason and Clayton not working. Williams probably has the most of prove of all of the receivers on the roster between now and Week 1.

-New CB Travis Fisher will join Drew Forrester tomorrow morning at 6:40 on “The Morning Reaction” on AM1570 WNST.
