Ravens- Giants live blog… running out the clock

November 16, 2008 |

3:50  – Ravens give the ball back to the Giants on downs. The Ravens appear to have been trying to do their best to run the clock out and prevent the score from getting any worse. Jared Gaither has not been on the field for a while now. There has been no word on an injury or anything to Gaither.

3:30 – The Giants had to settle for 3 points after Ahmad Bradshaw broke a 77 yard run on the Ravens down to the Ravens 2 yard line. Brandon Jacobs must be bothered by an injury, because he has been used in a limited role in the second half. Bradshaw now has 80 yards rushing and could possibly eclipse the 100 yard mark before this game is over with. The Ravens  have not done a good job in tackling this afternoon.

3:20 – After converting on another huge 3rd and 9, Joe Flacco’s pass to Derrick Mason bounced into the air and was picked off by Aaron Ross and returned 50 yards for the touchdown that will put the Ravens down by 17. The Ravens offense seemed to be in a nice rhythm before the interception. 17 points, on the road, against the defending Super Bowl champions with only 15 minutes left is an awful tall task.

3:15 – The Ravens defense comes up with another huge defensive stop. The Samari Rolle call was the right call, Rolle did not have control of the ball when he hit the ground on the interception. Here is another chance for the Ravens offense to respond and make this a game again.

3:00 – Give Joe Flacco credit, he continued to grow up today. Flacco converted two 3rd and 9 plays, one with his arm to Mason, and one with his legs. On the touchdown pass to McClain, the Giants were bringing the house and Flacco was able to keep the play alive to find McClain. On the point after, Matt Stover sets the NFL record for point after attempts made  with 372 consecutive.

2:45 – So the Ravens defense makes a stop after Jim Leonhard came untouched on 3rd and 9 forcing Eli Manning to throw the ball away and get an intentional grounding call. Fabian Washington and Samari Rolle both continue to play off the receivers for the Giants giving them 5-8 yards. Time for the Ravens offense to put a scoring drive together.

2:30 – The Ravens have survived to make it to halftime only down 20-3. Right before the half, Ray Lewis picked off an Eli Manning pass to keep points off the board. The Ravens should feel fortunate to only be down 17 at halftime, especially after the last drive where they had 2 penalties in a row for a total of 10 yards.

Someone on the Ravens coaching staff better talk to Bart Scott. After every play on defense, Scott is trash talking or pushing someone from the Giants offense.

Brandon Jacobs has already gone for as many yards in the first half as anyone has done against the Ravens all season. Dominic Rhodes ran for 73 yards when the Ravens faced the Colts. Brandon Jacobs has already rushed for 73 yards just in the first half. The Ravens have only allowed one rushing touchdown all season, Brandon Jacobs already has two today against the Ravens.

2:20 – After Justin Tuck gave the Ravens a 1st down on 3rd and 2 after a neutral zone infraction, Joe Flacco gave the ball back to the Giants has he  was going for Derrick Mason, but was picked off by Aaron Ross. Flacco was under heavy pressure in the pocket and appeared that he rushed the throw.

2:15 – For the first time today, the Ravens stop the Giants on 3rd down. The Giants are 2-3 on 3rd down while the Ravens are 1-5 . Ravens get the ball back on offense. They have to come away with some points here.

2:10 – The Ravens have finally cracked the scoreboard here in the Meadowlands. The Ravens found success through the passing game, but it was a pass that sailed over the head of Mark Clayton that forced the Ravens to have to settle for a Matt Stover 38yrd field goal.

2:00 – While Brandon Jacobs was in the locker room getting re taped, Eli Manning and the Giants offense drove 90 yards on offense. The Ravens secondary is playing way off of the Giants receiver’s, in particular whoever is covering Burress. Derrick Ward was a huge part of the drive as he ran and caught the ball against the Ravens on that drive. The Ravens are getting punched in the mouth and have no answer.

1:45- After what started out looking like a promising drive on offense after Flacco completed a 16 yard pass to Derrick Mason came to an end only three plays later as Flacco sailed a pass over Ray Rice’s head on 3rd and 2. I look for the Giants to open up the passing game here as the Giants will now be throwing with the wind.

1:35 – Brandon Jacobs is having his way running against the Ravens defense. Jacobs has now gone for 70 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns. The Ravens defense is doing a lot of pushing and shoving and talking after the plays. They are clearly frustrated right now with the way things are going.

1:25 – Ravens get helped out on their second offensive series after neutral zone infraction against Justin Tuck on 3rd and  9. Flacco hits Derrick Mason for 9 yards for a 1st down. After a dangerous 3rd and 3 pass by Joe Flacco falls incomplete, Matt Stover has a 32yd field goal attempt blocked. Giants get the ball at their 33. Giants 7- Ravens 0.

1:15 – Giants offense get a huge 36yd run by Brandon Jacobs. Samari Rolle is playing about 8 yards off of Burress. Derrick Ward with a huge pickup on the blitz by Bart Scott on the 21yd pass to Burress. Giants score on a Brandon Jacobs 1yd touchdown run. Jacobs will more than likely become the first back to go for over 100 against the Ravens. On the first offensive series, Jacobs has 5 carries 52 yards and 1 touchdown.

1:05- First offensive series for the Ravens and it will be a three and out. Run on 3rd and 7 is a little puzzling. Sam Koch punted into a swirling wind inside the stadium.

12:55 – We have arrived here in the Meadowlands. We got treatment for our frost bite, after waiting an hour for our credential, but we survived. The Ravens have won the toss and will receive.
