ESPN report: Ravens’ Newsome wanted Vick

Here’s the story, courtesy of ESPN’s Chris Mortensen via our friend Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com……

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Ravens G.M. Ozzie Newsome wanted to pursue quarterback Mike Vick.

Per Mort, Newsome, coach John Harbaugh, and owner Steve Bisciotti couldn’t get on the same page.

As we reported earlier tonight, one other team had made Vick an offer, and another team was poised to do so.

This answers the topics Luke Jones and I addressed this morning on The Comcast Morning Show. Clearly the national writers (including ESPN’s Mortensen and John Clayton) had access to something within the organization. They’re not bad journalists. I heard Ozzie Newsome shoot down the Vick possibility with my own ears on the first day of Training Camp; but the organization never outright denied any interest.

You get the feeling that Harbaugh was likely against the signing, Bisciotti was probably torn on the idea, and Newsome obviously liked it. (That’s just a hunch.)

As Nestor just pointed out here in the M&T Bank Stadium press box, this could have been a VERY interesting story had tonight at 8:30 the news broke that the RAVENS had just signed Michael Vick.
