The Baltimore Ravens announced Wednesday they have placed FB Mike McLaughlin on injured reserve, clearing space on the 75 man roster for newly acquired CB Josh Wilson-who they received in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday night. Wilson passed his physical Wednesday to make the trade official.
McLaughlin, an undrafted rookie out of Boston College, had missed practice throughout the week with a hip flexor injury. He was a longshot to make the 53 man roster, but was a strong candidate to end up on the Ravens’ practice squad.
McLaughlin had played LB during his college career at BC, but appeared to transition back to FB (which he had played in high school) smoothly. He will have another opportunity to make the roster as a FB in 2011.
The move leaves just Le’Ron McClain on the roster at the fullback position.
Following Thursday’s preseason finale against the St. Louis Rams at Edward Jones Dome, the Ravens must still make another 22 roster cuts. All NFL teams have until Saturday to get down to the 53 man regular season limit.
