Ray Lewis franchise tag will cost Ravens $11.313 million dollars

February 10, 2009 |

That is a report out of Adam Shefter’s blog this afternoon. The franchise tag for linebacker is $8.3 million, but  it is $11.313 million because the franchise number must either be the average of the top five players at the position or 120 percent of a player’s prior year salary — whichever is greater. In Lewis’ case, the 120 percent raise from last year’s salary is greater.

The $11.3 million would be the highest paid to any linebacker in the history of the game.
