Sizing up the 2013 Ravens roster after the second preseason game

August 17, 2013 | Luke Jones

LOCK: Haloti Ngata, Chris Canty, Marcus Spears, Arthur Jones, Brandon Williams, Terrence Cody
BUBBLE: DeAngelo Tyson, Will Pericak
LONG SHOT: Cody Larsen
INJURED: Kapron Lewis-Moore
Skinny: Cody continues to receive glowing reviews from coaches this summer, taking him from the bubble line to a lock to make the 53-man roster barring something strange happening over the next couple weeks. Tyson was a seventh-round pick last year, but this unit is too deep, especially when you factor in Pernell McPhee in some sub packages.

LOCK: Daryl Smith, Elvis Dumervil, Courtney Upshaw, Terrell Suggs, Arthur Brown, Josh Bynes, John Simon, Pernell McPhee
BUBBLE: Albert McClellan, Adrian Hamilton, Nigel Carr, Bryan Hall
LONG SHOT: D.J. Bryant, Brandon Copeland, Meshak Williams
INJURED: Jameel McClain (will likely be placed on the reserve physically unable to perform list to start the season)
Skinny: It may be difficult for the Ravens to keep 10 linebackers, but they are high on the pass-rushing potential of Hamilton. It’s easy to root for Hall after he shed so much weight to convert from the defensive line to inside linebacker, but there are too many names ahead of him on the depth chart.

LOCK: Lardarius Webb, Jimmy Smith, Corey Graham, Chykie Brown
BUBBLE: Chris Johnson, Marc Anthony, Moe Lee
SUSPENDED: Asa Jackson (will be suspended for the first eight games of the regular season)
Skinny: Johnson’s health concerns are quickly putting him on the wrong side of the roster bubble, so the seventh-round choice Anthony gets the nod here with a bounce-back performance against Atlanta that included three pass breakups. Lee would appear to be a decent fit for the practice squad, especially if the Ravens are only going to carry five cornerbacks on the active roster to begin the year.

LOCK: Michael Huff, Matt Elam, James Ihedigbo
BUBBLE: Anthony Levine, Omar Brown
LONG SHOT: Brynden Trawick
SUSPENDED: Christian Thompson (will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season)
Skinny: Brown and Levine appear to be in a tight battle for a spot if the Ravens keep a fourth safety, but Graham has the ability to shift from cornerback to safety in a game-day pinch. The disappointing Thompson might be fortunate to be facing suspension to avoid being cut at the end of the preseason, because he’s done nothing to stand out despite being a fourth-round pick just a year ago.

LOCK: Sam Koch, Morgan Cox, Justin Tucker
Skinny: No problems to worry about in this department as none of the three face any competition and are having strong summers.
