#WNSTSweet16 list — Who broke our hearts in Baltimore?

February 11, 2014 | Drew Forrester

At #6, it’s the heartbreaking end to the great Colts career of Johnny Unitas, who was traded to the San Diego Chargers prior to the 1973 and played in just five games for the Chargers before being replaced by future Hall of Famer Dan Fouts.  HERE IS THE LINK TO A COMPREHENSIVE PIECE ON THE UNITAS TRADE.  Unitas in that Chargers uniform is as unsightly as seeing Ray Lewis in any other color but purple.  No matter that Johnny U was essentially “done” at the end of the ’72 campaign, that he wasn’t protected and allowed to be put to pasture as a Colt will always be remembered as a bush league move by then GM Joe Thomas.

The great Johnny Unitas, finishing up as a San Diego Charger.  Simply heartbreaking.
