#11 is the homegrown kid from Severna Park and Mount Saint Joseph who had the opportunity to do what we all dreamed of growing up in Baltimore — he could have played for the Orioles. But in the winter of 2008, armed with the ability to essentially choose his next destination, Teixeira turned his nose at Baltimore and instead signed with the New York Yankees. Naturally, anytime there’s a discussion about the Orioles and signing a high quality player, the ultimate stumbling block is always money and this situation was no different. The Orioles themselves floated a rumored salary offer of $140 million to Teixeira, but those close to him say no such offer was EVER made by an Orioles representative. In the end, Teixeira chose the Yankees over Boston and the Washington Nationals and remains a Yankee to this day.
