14. Katie Ledecky, swimming

Just 16 years of age, the Bethesda resident is one of the few local athletes to make the cut with the opportunity to add to her already-impressive list of accomplishments in the years to come.

In addition to taking the gold in the 800-meter freestyle race at the 2012 Olympics in London, Ledecky won four gold medals at the 2013 world championships in Barcelona, including individual titles in the 400-, 800-, and 1500-meter freestyle events. The teenager has a long way to go to approach the success of the great Michael Phelps, but it’s difficult not to be impressed with what she’s accomplished at such a young age.

    Another name for consideration would be Larry Surock. Baltimore Native, Patterson High Grad, UB All American and member of the 1952 US Olympic Soccer Team.
    He is in the UB Athletic Hall of Fame and the MD Soccer Hall of Fame.
    He should at least be mentioned with this group.
