13. Andrew Maynard, boxing

The Laurel native was already the two-time United States Amateur champion and had won the light heavyweight bronze in the 1987 Pan American Games when he arrived in Seoul for the 1988 Olympics.

Maynard won the light heavyweight gold medal after disposing of the Soviet Union’s Nurmagomed Shanavazov, propelling him into the professional ranks where he signed with Sugar Ray Leonard’s team and finished his career with a 26-13-1 record.

    Another name for consideration would be Larry Surock. Baltimore Native, Patterson High Grad, UB All American and member of the 1952 US Olympic Soccer Team.
    He is in the UB Athletic Hall of Fame and the MD Soccer Hall of Fame.
    He should at least be mentioned with this group.
