12. Carmelo Anthony, basketball

The inclusion of NBA stars in the Olympics has been met with negativity by many since its start in 1992, but the Towson Catholic product has been an important part of two gold-winning Olympic teams in 2008 and 2012.

In the 2012 Summer Games played in London, Anthony averaged 16.3 points per contest and set a United States Olympic record with 37 points in a game against Nigeria. While others have often bowed out of the Summer Games to rest after the long NBA season, Anthony has participated in three different Summer Games as well as the 2006 FIBA world championships, helping the U.S. to two golds and two bronze medals in those tournaments.

    Another name for consideration would be Larry Surock. Baltimore Native, Patterson High Grad, UB All American and member of the 1952 US Olympic Soccer Team.
    He is in the UB Athletic Hall of Fame and the MD Soccer Hall of Fame.
    He should at least be mentioned with this group.
