11. Kimmie Meissner, figure skating

Though a sixth-place finish at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin left her Olympic trophy case bare, the Fallston High grad went on to win the 2006 world championship and was the first American and first woman to simultaneously hold the world, Four Continents, and national titles at the tender age of 17.

Her lack of Olympic success keeps her lower on the list despite an impressive short-term run as one of the world’s best, but Meissner excelled as an amateur and became the second American woman to land the triple Axel jump in national competition in 2005.

    Another name for consideration would be Larry Surock. Baltimore Native, Patterson High Grad, UB All American and member of the 1952 US Olympic Soccer Team.
    He is in the UB Athletic Hall of Fame and the MD Soccer Hall of Fame.
    He should at least be mentioned with this group.
