8. Katie Hoff, swimming

After moving to Towson as a teenager and training at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, Hoff tasted plenty of success in the pool despite never winning gold at the Olympics. In 2008, she followed up a medal-less performance in Athens by winning a silver in the 400-meter freestyle and bronze medals in the 400-meter individual medley and the 800-meter freestyle relay in Beijing.

Hoff won eight gold medals in world championship competitions, which is more than enough to solidify her spot among the greatest local Olympic sport athletes.

    Another name for consideration would be Larry Surock. Baltimore Native, Patterson High Grad, UB All American and member of the 1952 US Olympic Soccer Team.
    He is in the UB Athletic Hall of Fame and the MD Soccer Hall of Fame.
    He should at least be mentioned with this group.
