Just as I start typing, Solo shot for Texas….

It’s only fair that after bashing Eaton that I give credit where credit is do.  Great outing and I’m starting to come around on Koji as well.

Anyway, I said it before and I will say it again… The O’s have one of the top lineups in all of baseball, our best hitter may be in AAA, and the bottom third is horrid.  Still, a great lineup.  The pitching staff does not have to be great, it has to be average.  It has to be adequate… It has to be… Trent Dilfer.  That’s it.  we don’t need 3-hit shutouts with 10 Ks.  We need 6 + innings of 3 runs.  We do that we win.  That’s an ERA of 4.5.  Not great, but not bad either and with this lineup, it’s all we need.

You may laugh when you see this, but the reality is that with decent pitching, the O’s have a chance every game.  Let’s pretend for a second that Guthrie returns to form, Koji is who we’ve seen his last 2 outings, Eaton can win 12 games, and Bergesson is who we saw the other night.  WOW!  that would be a solid staff and we would be dreaming of playoffs.  But what if that is the case…  What if Adam Eaton figured something out (He himself admitted that was the first time he’d felt right in years); what if Koji is a poor man’s Matsusaka;  What if Brad B. is the real deal and here for the long haul.  Wouldn’t that be something.  Look, I’ve only had one beer, but I’m telling you that with average pitching, the Birds are right there.

As a matter of fact, in a brilliant stroke of marketing genius, the Orioles should have Trent Dilfer T-Short night at the yard.  The first 10,00 fans get one, and so does each member of the pitching staff, just to remind them, you don’t have to be great, just “manage the game.”  Work ahead, pound the strike zone… Good things could and will happen.

See you tomorrow after I go to the Ravens Draft Day at M & T and then the O’s game…
