2013 Preview of the Baltimore Ravens

July 07, 2013 | Dom Rosetti

2012 was a fantastic year for the Baltimore Ravens and all its fans.

At the start of it, everyone expected the Ravens to miss the playoffs. They lost key players (Cory Redding, Jarret Johnson, etc.) and a key coach (Chuck Pagano). But through all of the determination and heartbreak that went on that season, the Baltimore Ravens proved everyone wrong.

Not only did they advance to the playoffs, they went to the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. It was a great game and hard fought until the very end.

At the end of it all the Baltimore Ravens were Super Bowl Champions!

The offseason has come and we are already two months away from the regular season! I can’t wait!

The projections for us at the beginning of the 2013 season is no different than any other. We are still projected to be underdogs. We are still projected to miss the playoffs. For some reason we cannot gain a little respect even though we are Champions.

Yes Ray Lewis has retired and we lost Ed Reed, Bernard Pollard, and Anquan Boldin and many others.

But we still have Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Torrey Smith and Mr. Happy Feet Jacoby Jones.

We acquired great players this offseason. Elvis Dumervil who I believe will team up with Suggs and be our other outside linebacker. We also signed Chris Canty and Marcus Spears. I believe they will be lined up with Ngata and be the three defensive lineman in the 3-4.

We also acquired Michael Huff from the Raiders and he will be our free safety. I think rookie Matt Elam will start at strong safety at the beginning of the season. Lardarius Webb will be fully healed to start the season and be our starting corner along with Corey Graham. Jimmy Smith should be the number three in the depth chart of our corners.

Many people believe we should get another wide receiver. Torrey Smith has moved up as the number one and Jacoby Jones as the number two. I think Jones should stay at number three because we cannot risk him becoming injured. He is a key part of this team returning the kicks and punts. Tandon Doss and especially David Reed need to step up and prove all the haters wrong. They have the ability to do it and this year may be their breakout season. Reed is entering his fourth year in the pros while Doss is entering his third. I think Pitta will be used as a tight end/wide receiver at times and Dickson will be used more and he needs to also step up.

It is going to be a great and exciting season ahead. It is going to be awkward not seeing No. 52 out on the field. New names will be noticed and new players will step up and shine. Clearly the Baltimore Ravens will advance to the playoffs and they may even go all the way and go to the Super Bowl. Football is an exciting sport and anything can happen.
