The Swinging Bunt
Brian Roberts, American Hero. In case you missed it over the weekend… On Saturday the United States Team was embarrassed as they were ‘mercy-ruled’ 11-1 by Puerto Rico. Embarrassed, devastated, shocked, and most importantly in need of a second basemen, after starter Dustin Pedroia went down with an injury, where did the Stars and Stripes turn to for late tournament heroics? They went to Fort Lauderdale to O’s camp and plucked none other than our very own, newly extended, Brian Roberts. All B-Rob did in his first game with the team in a 9-3 elimination game victory over the Netherlands was go 3-3 with a double, a triple, a pair of runs scored and walks, aaand an RBI for good measure batting from the #2 hole. Not too shabby, I think Dave Trembley would take that kind of night any night. Roberts will surely be back in the lineup tonight when the U.S. engages in an elimination game rematch with the Puerto Ricans tonight at 7PM.
Wait, there’s more? What do the Postseason NIT, the College Basketball Invitational, and College Insider.com Postseason Tournament all have in common? you guessed it, no one really cares about them… and therefore I’m not going to talk about them in any sort of length. Let me extend my sincerest apologies to all you proud Mt. St. Mary’s alums in the area looking forward to your potential big game against Idaho, or the Citadel.
