A Purist’s Delight

August 25, 2009 |

If you haven’t watched any of the Little League World Series please start tomorrow.  The games are extremely entertaining, like today’s Canada vs. Germany matchup that featured Germany overcoming a 10 run deficit only to lose in extra innings.  I didn’t know Brian Burres was a German pre-teen.  There is also the story of the team from Washington that takes infield practice using oven mitts.  The kids in the LLWS are filled with unbridled joy which is infectious to the viewer.  The best part of the coverage is no mention of PEDs, unless I’m seriously underestimating the power of Sour Patch Kids.  If you haven’t watched yet, start.

Yesterday I mentioned that the Orioles would be sending Josh Bell to the Arizona Fall League.  Today it was announced that Brandon Snyder, Brandon Erbe and Frederick 3B Brandon Waring would join Bell on the Phoenix Desert Dogs.  Waring is an intriguing power prospect who was acquired from the Reds in the Ramon Hernandez deal.  Erbe will get the chance to make up some of the innings he lost due to an early season DL stint for elbow fatigue.  With the promotion of Tillman and Matusz to the O’s Erbe ranks behind only Jake Arietta in terms of minor league pitching prospects.
