All Sports – Academy Awards

I’ll admit it ….. I do watch bits and pieces of the Academy Awards presentation, each year.  I’m a big movie buff, and I do think the Hollywood Foreign Press usually gets it right, when they dole out Oscar trophies.  (** they got it WRONG on Best Actor – it was Mickey Rourke)

Yep, even ass-hats win these awards, if they deserve ‘em.  Just look at Sean Penn – if he’s a baseball player, he’d never be MVP or a first ballot HOF’er.  Then again, so many actors are jerks, it would be virtually impossible to exclude those who are anything less than humble and engaging.  Perhaps, if Albert Belle was an actor and he gave a masterful performance, he would be recognized.

So, in a twist on the Academy Awards, I’m gonna recognize some people/teams from today’s world of sports, whom I think deserve some special recognition.  My sports Oscars would go to the following …..

Best Organization in NASCAR  -  Hendrick Motorsports

Best Manager in MLB  -  Ozzie Guillen, Chicago White Sox

Best Coach in NFL  -  Bill Belichick, New England Patriots

Best Coach in NBA  -  Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs

Best Coach in NHL  -  Dave Tippett, Dallas Stars

Best Crew Chief in NASCAR  -  Greg Zipadelli, Joe Gibbs Motorsports
