Area Soccer Teams Ranked Nationally

The Baltimore-Washington area has always been a soccer hot bed for as long as I can remember. This year is no different with area teams, both high school and college, earning national rankings.

At the high school level McDonogh Girls Soccer Team is currently ranked #1 in the latest NSCAA Poll. In the latest Region IV Poll there are three area teams ranked at #1, #9 and #10. Of course, McDonogh is at #1 and Good Counsel is at #9 and Quince Orchard is #10.

On the boys side the McDonogh Boy’s Soccer Team was ranked at #2 in the nation until their lost to Perry Hall 2-1 in OT and they dropped out of this week’s top 25. But in the most recent Region IV poll McDonogh, who are locally ranked #4 by the Baltimore Sun, are ranked #8. The Baltimore Sun’s #1 ranked boys team River Hill are currently ranked #11 and Dematha Catholic is ranked #13. Several other local teams are knocking on the Region IV polls, which include Perry Hall, Curley, Calvert Hall and Mt. St. Joe’s.

At the college level two area teams are nationally ranked this week in Division I play. Maryland’s Men’s Soccer Team is currently ranked #4 and are currently ranked #1 in the South Region. Loyola is currently ranked #17 nationally and ranked #1 in the North Atlantic Region.Mt St Mary’s is ranked #10 in the same region. Navy is ranked #10 in the Mid Atlantic Region and UMBC is ranked #11 in the Northest Region.

In Division II the Men of Columbia Union are currently ranked #10 in the Atlantic Region.

In Division III the Salisbury Men’s Soccer team comes in this week ranked at #17 in the nation and #3 in the South Region. Johns Hopkins Men’s Soccer team is currently ranked #6 in the Middle Atlantic Region.

On the ladies side in Division III the Johns Hopkins Women are currently ranked #9 in the nation and #3 in the Middle Atlantic Region with Salisbury women at #9 and St. Mary’s at #10.

On the Junior College level the College of Southern Maryland Men’s team is currently ranked #14 in Division 1 with CCBC-Essex knocking on the door. In the Division 3 rankings the Montgomery-Rockville Men are ranked #3 in the nation.

At the Club level the Baltimore Colts coached by Frank Assaro lost in the National Championship in the US Amatuer Cup. Local teams are ranked at every level nationally both girls and boys.

Starting with the U12 Boys, the Baltimore Bays Casa Mia Bays are currently ranked #16 in the nation and are ranked #1 in Maryland and #4 in Region 1.

U13 Boys, the Olney BGC Rangers are currently ranked #24 in the nation and #1 in Maryland and #7 in Region 1. The Baltimore United are at #10, Bethesda SC Fire #13, Baltimore Bays Casa Mia ’96 #14 and Besthesda SC Revolution #23 in Region 1.

U14 Boys, the Baltimore Bays Casa Mia Bays ’95 are ranked #25 in the nation and #1 in Maryland and #11 in Region 1. Also ranked in Region 1 are Bethesda SC AC Bethesda #13 and Soccer of Columbia United Premier at #15.

U14 Girls, the Bethesda SC Freedom 94/95 are currently ranked #6 in the nation and #1 in Maryland and #1 in Region 1. Also ranked in Region 1 are Freestate Elite #11 and SAC Columbia United Premier #19.

U15 Boys, the Olney Rangers are currently ranked #9 in the nation and #1 in Maryland and #2 in Region 1. Also ranked in Region 1 are the baltimore Bays Casa Mia ’94 at #3 and are ranked #12 nationally. The Baltimore Bays Barcelona are ranked #22 in Region 1 and the Bethesda SC United are at #25.

At the U16 level the Baltimore Bays Casa Mia ’93 coached by Steve Nichols are currently ranked #1 in Maryland, Region 1 and in the nation. They are also the defending National Champions. Also ranked in Region 1 are Bethesda SC Arsenal #13 and the Potomac SA Cougars ’93 at #7. Potomac is also ranked #22 in the nation.

U17 Boys, the Pachuca FC USA Internationals are currently ranked #13 in the nation and are ranked #1 in Maryland and #5 in Region 1. Freestate Elite are also ranked #23 in the nation and #2 in Maryland and #7 in Region1.

U18 boys, the Baltimore Bays SC Bays’91 coached by Anthony Adams(Assistant Coach at UMBC) are currently ranked #12 in the nation and #1 in Maryland and #6 in Region 1. The Soccer of Columbia United Premier 90-91 are currently ranked #22 in region 1.

U19 Boys, there are 3 teams ranked nationally wih the Montgomery Dragons at #4. the Dragons are also ranked #1 in Maryland and #4 in Region 1. Freestate United is ranked #2 in Maryland and #4 in Region1 and #10 in the nation. Finally the Potomac SA Cougars are ranked #3 in Maryland, #6 in Region 1 and #17 Nationally.

U19 Girls, two teams are currently ranked nationally. Freestate Shooters are ranked #1 in Maryland, #1 in Region 1 and #2 in the nation. Bethesda SC Rapids are #2 in Maryland, #9 in Region 1 and #24 in the nation.
