PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES ARE SPOILED!!!
Shocker right. Okay well not all of them, but many have had a time where they had a “PRE-MADONNA” moment.
In the past year when I turn on ESPN it’s like I’m watching a celebrity tabloid show. Brett Favre has ‘Little Brett ‘going viral. Randy Moss on his third NFL roster this season, and it’s not even Week 10! LeBron James had a television fiasco for what, “I’m taking my talents to South Beach…” And all I’ll say is Tiger Woods. As the Monday Night Crew on ESPN would say, C’mon Man!
So thinking about these story lines, I have decided to come up with a rough list of athletes over the past 20 years who’s achievements on the field speak for themselves, however, what crap comes out of their mouths and their antics say otherwise. Here are a handful of athletes, and in no particular order, that came to mind. However at the end, I will give you the Top 5.
§ Ricky Williams- NFL
§ Allen Iverson- NBA
§ Barry Bonds- MLB
§ OJ Simpson- NFL
§ Deion Sanders- NFL
§ Mike Tyson- Boxing
§ Manny Ramirez- MLB
§ Charles Barkley- NBA
§ Roger Clemens- MLB
§ Ron Artest- NBA
§ Terrell Owens- NFL
§ Tiger Woods- Golf
§ Alex Rodriguez- MLB
§ Randy Moss- NFL
§ Brett Favre- NFL
§ LeBron James- NBA
§ Sammy Sosa- MLB
Okay so I have showed the list to several people and they have questioned some of the names on the list. Again, these are just like Power Rankings, an opinionated judgment, that’s why I love ‘em.
Before I give you the Top 5, I just want to talk about one athlete on here, Deion Sanders. I hope you were scratching your head as in why I placed him on the list. He is a personality whom has never jeopardized his team, but had his ‘Prime Time’ attitude all throughout his career. Granted he is arguably the NFL’s greatest shut down corner, but did his side show overshadow his performance and how people remember him? Think about it…
Drum Roll please………………………………
TOP 5 ATHLETES WHOS ATTIDUDE OVERSHADOWED THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS
5. BARRY BONDS
Beholder of the greatest sports record in sports, the all-time Home Run career leader. And the only person in history whos head grew “naturally”. Congrats Mr. Bonds.
4. ROGER CLEMENS
Arguably the greatest pitcher of his era, Mr. Clemens has won 7 Cy Youngs, and also won “Douche of the Decade” presented by congress. Congrats.
3. BRETT FAVRE
This legend has every NFL passing record in the books, including the most official retirement-to-unretirement-back-to-retirement press conferences. He could not have accomplished all this with out his sidekick, ‘Little Brett’. Congrats Mr. Favre.
2. MIKE TYSON
Could of been the greatest boxer of all-time, but thanks to his ear-biting, rape conviction, and bankruptcy lifestyle, he has landed him self #2 on this ‘so-not-prestigious’ list. Congrats Mr. Tyson.
1. OJ SIMPSON
Heisman trophy winner, 1st overall pick in the NFL draft, NFL MVP, and successful career in film after football. But when someone says the name OJ Simpson, they think, “If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” I hope your White Bronco is still running. Congrats Mr. Simpson.
