Baltimore Area College Soccer Part 3

March 23, 2008 |

Well it’s 5:45 AM and I’m up getting ready to hide Easter Eggs for the little one and waiting to see how many of the family show up today!! Usually it ends up with me going to the bedroom to hide from them all and watch TV in quiet. I see that my Kansas State pick for a Cinderella was a good one. NOT!!

Anyway, the third part of my Baltimore Area College Coaches is on Johns Hopkins Head Men’s Soccer Coach Matt Smith. Matt, like the other three coaches, was a star at every level he has played on. A product of the Oakland Mills powerhouse soccer teams of the 80’s, Matt then excelled at both Catonsville CC and Towson University.

In his 16 seasons at Johns Hopkins Coach Smith has compiled a record of 240-45-19. His teams have won an incredible 82% of the games he has coached. 82%, think about that!! He has become the winningest coach in Johns Hopkins history.

Coach Smith has created a National Powerhouse at the NCAA III level. He has had the Blue Jays in 9 NCAA III National Tournaments and has won 4 ECAC Championships. Eventhough he only has 4 area players on the team the 2008 roster will again challenge for the title.

As if Coach Smith didn’t already have enough to do with the Blue Jays program he is the co-founder and co-director of the Elite 300 Soccer Academy.

Well that is it for today!! I hope everyone has a Happy Easter!!
