Baltimore Blast v New Jersey Preview

April 09, 2008 |

The Baltimore Blast takes on the New Jersey Ironmen starting Thursday in the best two out of three games series. The first game will be hosted by Baltimore at 1st Mariner Arena game time is 7:05pm. The second game is in New Jersey at the Prudential Center Saturday Night at 7:00pm.

The Blast are 3-1 vs. the Ironmen this season. At home the Blast has won by scores of 15-2 and 10-6. On the road the Blast are 1-1 vs. New Jersey with a 14-6 win last week and a one goal loss 13-12 back in January.

In games vs. New Jersey the Blast have been very balanced in their attack: Celenza 6 points 1 assist, Cabral 4 points, 2 assist, Millwood 8 points, 3 assist, Neto 6 points, 2 assist, Aristodemo 5 points 2 assist. Sagu has been the net minder for all four games with David Kerr filling in only on penalty situations.

Danny Kelly is counting on the Blast strong home record to come through for them in this round. A win puts all the pressure on New Jersey to have to win the first game on Saturday to get to the Golden Goal game immediately following game #2. It is a gamble though as a bad result at home means all the pressure goes to the Blast and forces them to have to win the first game Saturday in New Jersey to get to the Golden Goal game.

The Blast have been very good at home so I look for a tight game early then in the second half I look for some distance to be created on the scoreboard. Look for a 16-8 win for the Blast on Thursday. Saturday will be a very physical game as New Jersey will pull out all the stops.  I look for a low scoring game on Saturday. I predict an 8-6 win with the Blast advancing to face the Wave next week.

In the other series look for Monterrey to defeat Chicago and to advance to face Detroit next week.
