Baltimore’s Pro Outdoor Soccer Team:Crystal Palace

March 28, 2008 |

When you hear the words Crystal Palace and you are a soccer fan you automatically think of the Crystal Palace UK team. Not anymore!!

Here in Baltimore the Crystal Palace outdoor soccer team will begin their 2nd season Friday, April 25th at 7:30 PM at UMBC Stadium against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

After a 9-7-5 inaugural season, which is an pretty impressive record for a new team, Crystal Palace looks to be even better in 2008. Brian Rowland, who is probally the best goalkeeper in the league, will anchor a strong Crystal Palace squad. Key additions of Patrick Healey, Mike Lookingland and Kevin King look to help fellow team mates Val Teixeira, Bryan Harkin, Gary Brooks and Sergio Flores to a possible playoff run this year.

“So far this year we have sold 6,000 tickets for games; which was more then we had sold for 7 games total last year.” said Carter Jordan Crystal Palace Account Manager. “We have sold 4,000 tickets for our opening game this year.” Carter added. Jim Cherneski, co-founder and co-manager of Crystal Palace told me over the phone “We are hoping for a sell out for the opening game and it looks like we will get it.”

It looks like the grassroots marketing plans of Crystal Palace has started showing dividends already. Carter Jordan told me that Crystal Palace is involved with over 80 organizations and have given 50 free clinics to the Baltimore area youth to help spread the word of their soccer team. Yes he did say FREE!! Sounds strange coming from a Pro Team here in Baltimore. But after talking to several of the people from the Crystal Palace team this is just the way they are.

The Crystal Palace soccer team is trying to build something special here in Baltimore. From their youth teams to the free clinics to their pro team; this organization is nothing but class from top to bottom!! To the soccer fans here in Baltimore get out there and support the Crystal Palace Soccer Team; I know that I will.
