Baseball season starts this Saturday

April 16, 2010 | Paul Hoke

It’s here. The official opening to the 2010 baseball season. The teams are picked, the grass is cut (hopefully) and the march to the championship begins at noon this Saturday. I am of course talking about Opening Day for my son’s little league baseball team.

Given the crud that we have had to watch from our “Major League” team’s first 2 weeks of the regular season, it’s going to be a nice change of pace, to actually watch pure baseball for a change. Notice I didn’t say good baseball, because sometimes, it’s not all that good. But at least it’s pure. Watching 9 and 10 year old kids run around the diamond instantly makes me think of the John Fogerty song, “Centerfield”. And watching my 10 year old son play this game with a smile on his face all day, reminds me of why I love baseball as much as I do. In it’s purest form, with it’s smallest players, baseball is a beautiful game. Not the disaster that today’s whiny, overpaid, sissy major leaguers have turned it into.

So this weekend, I will be celebrating the official start to baseball season. The in house opener tomorrow, and the travel team opener (yes ladies and gentlemen, my boy is THAT good) on Sunday. Too bad my son’s teams aren’t playing the Orioles…nothing like starting the season off with a weekend sweep.

Go TRC Baseball.
