Belichick made a smart decision

With 2:08 left in the game on your own 28 yard line, and your up by 6 , the normal coaching move is to punt, have your defense hold them, and go into the locker room a winner. That said, if it’s Peyton Manning or Tom Brady getting the ball down by 6 with 2 minutes left, that “normal” move cannot apply. Why would Belichick punt in that situation? The best case scenario is the Colts get the ball on their own 30 yard line, which would be about a 50 yard punt, do you think the result would be any different from yardage? The only 2 options were go for on fourth down, or let the Colts score on the very next play, to get the ball in Brady’s hands with 1:40 left in the game only needing a field goal.
