After a slow start the Baltimore Blast defeated the New Jersey Ironmen to take the first game of the best 2 out of 3 Golden Goal quarter final series last night at the 1st Mariner Arena. Game two is Saturday at 7pm in New Jersey. The Blast scored two three point goals (Celenza and Wakefield) after an initial tally from Donny Gray of New Jersey at 1:57 into the first period. The second period was a draw as both teams scored two 2 point goals each. New Jersey got goals from Tiguinho and Tim O’ Neal. The Blast answered with goals from Machel Millwood and Neto. In the third quarter the Blast took control on defense holding the Ironment to no shots on goal. Meanwhile the Blast scored a two point goal as defender Mike Lookingland scored on an assist from Machel Millwood. The fourth quarter saw the Blast blow it open with goals from Denison Cabral, Machel Millwood, P.J. Wakefield, Lucio and Machel Millwood to complete his hat tick and 7 total points on the night. Gordon Klestjan scored a late 2 point goal at 10:17 for New Jersey and a very late tally by Tim O’Neal to make it somewhat more respectable score. The final score Blast 22 New Jersey 10.
