It’s been a long time (too long as Nestor reminded me the other day) since my last blog and so much has happened in the time that’s elapsed.
Most important, the Blast clinched a 2008 MISL playoff berth and will host a Quarterfinal match against the New Jersey Ironmen on Thursday, April 10th at 7:05 p.m. at 1st Mariner Arena. In doing so, the team has won 13 of their last 16 games to finish third in the MISL standings, swept the Chicago Storm and Orlando Sharks and earned their first-ever shutout (before you argue with me… it was the first shutout of the current franchise; the original Blast did indeed have a few shutouts from 1980-1992).
The Blast has done all that in the last few weeks and still has one home game left in the 2007-08 regular season – TONIGHT against the Detroit Ignition at 7:35 at 1st Mariner Arena. Despite Baltimore’s many successes this season, they have yet to beat the Ignition this year. Detroit has won the previous three games against the Blast and have earned a first-round bye, which means they get to sit at home next weekend awaiting the winner of the Baltimore vs. New Jersey Quarterfinal series (or the Monterrey La Raza vs. Chicago Storm series).
Tonight is fan appreciation night and the team’s last game of the regular season. Throughout the night, the Blast will hold various contests and give away special prizes including a trip to Bermuda trip for two, a Play Station three, gas cards, Pepsi prizes and free one-day memberships to Bally’s.
In addition to the extra giveaways, tonight’s game will also feature the always-entertaining annual halftime celebrity game. Members of the local media including WNST’s own Rob, Casey and Adam will take the field along with many others.
Tickets for tonight’s game, as well as Thursday’s playoff game, are on sale now by calling TicketMaster at 410-547-SEAT. Tickets will also be available tonight at the 1st Mariner Arena Box Office.
We’ll see you tonight at 1st Mariner Arena as the Blast closes out the 2007-08 MISL regular season!
