The Baltimore Blast 14-5 have their regular season finale tonight at 1st Mariner Arena against the Missouri Comets 8-11. If the Blast win, they host the MISL Championship Game Friday March 25th. If the Blast loss and the Milwaukee Wave loss, the Blast host the MISL Championship Game. If the Blast loss and the Wave win, the Blast have to play a 2 game playoff series with the Missouri Comets. To simplify it, the Blast need this game and everything is laid out perfect for them. A decent crowd of 6,428 showed up tonight to help the Blast win.

As if they were well aware of everything hanging on tonight’s games, Blast forward Matt Watson scores on the team’s first shot. As the play starts up afterwords, the Blast score on their second shot of the game. Blast captain Robbie Aristodemo scores on a great goal to put the Blast ahead 4-0 less than 2 minutes into the game. You couldn’t ask for a better start as a Blast fan. Several minutes of steady play where both teams seem to settle down, the Comets get a set play in front of the Blast goal. They run a good set piece, but the shot was perfect. Comets close the lead to 4-2. The rest of the quarter was some good up and down the field play, but no scoring.

The 2nd quarter starts slow, but that changes when the Comets commit a penalty at the 3:30 mark of the quarter. Blast get a 2 minute power play. The Blast cannot afford to let this scoring chance pass them by, and they don’t. At the 4:51 mark Blast forward Adauto Neto scores and puts the Blast ahead 6-2. The Blast have control of the play for most of the 2nd quarter, really keeping all possession and not letting the Comets get anything going. At the 11:17 mark, Blast forward Max Ferdinand nails a long shot and puts the Blast up 9-2. With 20 seconds to go in the half, the Comets make a huge defensive mistake and Blast forward Max Ferdinand puts the Blast ahead 11-2, and that’s the score at halftime.

The second half starts off and the Comet quickly commit a tripping penalty. Just what the Blast needed. At the 6:54 mark Blast forward Neto scores and puts the Blast ahead 13-2. 15 seconds later the Comets respond with a goal of their own to bring the score to 13-4 halfway through the 3rd quarter. Some decent play the next couple of minutes, but nothing that stands out. Then at 11:17 in the 3rd quarter Blast forward Machel Millwood puts the Blats ahead 15-4 with a nice goal. This is turning into the dominating performance the Blast needed tonight. The 3rd quarter ends with the Blast ahead 15-4.

The 4th quarter starts and the Comets are sparadically pulling their goalie. The change that strategy back by putting the goalie back, but it shows the desperation the Comets have. At the 11:43 mark, both teams commit matching pushing penalty. 4 on 4 soccer should be a little more open, and it is. Blast midfielder Pat Healey scores with 10 minutes to go to put the Blast ahead 17-4. The Comets pull their goalie for good and dominate the passing, but cannot get off any good scoring opportunities. The Blast turn around and miss several long shots onto the Comet empty net. It doesn’t seem to matter with the score so far apart. With 2 minutes to go, the Comets finally get a goal to make the score 17-6. But that’s all they can muster and the game ends with a Blast win 17-6.

So that’s the 2010-2011 MISL Regular Season Championship to the Baltimore Blast. The MISL Championship Game is Friday night, March 25 at 7:35 in the 1st Mariner Arena. This was a tremendous regular season at 15-5 and the Blast find themselves one win away from another MISL Championship.
