Can Ovechkin Reach 50 Goals in 50 Games?

October 30, 2009 |

Can Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin reach hallowed plateau in the NHL of getting 50 Goals in 50 Games. Now keep in the mind this is the 50th game of the team the player plays for. Alot of Stars of the past have came close like Hall of Famers Jari Kurri, Mario Lemieux, Cam Neely just barly reaching the club by scoring 50 Goals in the number of games they played, like for example Lemieux in the 1992–93 season scored his 50th goal in his 48th game, which was his team’s 72nd game. He was plagued by injury that year, and finished with a total of 69 goals in 60 games played, having scored 19 goals in his remaining 12 games. In the 1995–96 season he scored his 50th goal in his 50th game (the team’s 59th), and finished the season with 69 goals in 70 games. Even NHL Greats who moved to the WHL Anders Hedberg and Bobby Hull in 1976 acheived the feat of 50 Goals in 50 Games, but the NHL does not reconize WHA Records.

Reguardless of the past this looks like an amazing season that the Great 8 is going to have. The season has just started and in Washingtons first 12 Games, Alex Ovechkin has scored 13 Goals in Washingtons 12 games played this season. The Great 8 is on a pace to score 89 goals this years, just four goals short of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s single Regular Season record of 92. For fans who do not follow hockey, wake up, you are on the verge of watching the making of maybe the Greatest Goal scorer of all time, He is close in compareson of a Gretzky or a Lemieux.

This record is up for the taking, and the last player to score 50 goals in 50 games was St. Louis Blues Sniper, Brett Hull in which he reached this feat in the 91-92 Season. Reguardless if he reaches 50 in 50, or he does it in 53 games. You are watching the probally greatest sports star today, you can debate and compare Ovie to other Sport Stars such as Kobe, A-Rod, Lebron, Manning, Brady and even Tiger. But if you take a look closly to what Ovie has accomplished since he came in the League, Alex Ovechkin is better or as good as any of there Superstars.

In closing, In my oppinion Ovie will join Hockeys most prestigese club and break bread with Maurice The Rocket Richard, Mike Bossey, Brett Hull, Super Mario and the Great One himself….Wayne Gretzky. Thats pretty good company, if you ask me!

And thats Trentler’s Take!
