Can’t play today but still wanna help?

May 22, 2008 | Drew Forrester

Today, the Thursday before Memorial Day, has become one of my favorite days of the year.

For the last four years, we’ve held our WNST Charity Golf Outing on the Thursday before Memorial Day and today, we’ll gather at Mountain Branch GC in Joppa for year #5.

This year’s event is sponsored by Miller Lite and we have a great afternoon of golf, fun and friendship on tap.  We’re raising money for a wonderful Baltimore-based organization, Casey Cares Foundation.  If you’d like to know more about what they do, check out their web-site at www.caseycaresfoundation.org

I know a lot of you out there can’t play today, but you can still play a role, and help us raise money.

I’ll be paired up with Damon Klepcynzski (Mountain Branch teaching pro) on the 11th hole this afternoon and we intend on making 20 birdies at that hole.  Damon will hit the tee shot (it’s a 160 yard par-3) and I’ll make the putt.

We have 20 groups playing today.  That means we’ll play the hole 20 times.

You can’t have a competition in golf unless you’re willing to bet.  And we are.

Here’s the bet:

Every time Damon and I birdie the hole, you donate $5.00 to Casey Cares.  Every time we don’t, we’ll donate $2.00, but we’ll donate $2.00 x the number of people who get in on the bet.

It’s all on the honor system.  Just respond in the “comments” section below and tell me you’re in and I’ll post a blog tomorrow telling you all how many birdies we made.  You can then send a check to me at the radio station in care of Casey Cares and we’ll raise a lot more money.  And Damon and I will pay up our end of the bet based on how many of you get in and how times we DON’T make a birdie (which won’t be many, by the way, so be prepared to pay!).

So, feel free to comment below and let me know if you’re in.

By the way, Ron Nevarez in Tampa, FL is in – with a HUGE wager – and I’ll talk about that on Friday after Damon and I birdie 20 holes later today.

I look forward to seeing all of you at Mountain Branch later today.
