Caps Dominate and Make Quick Work of Rangers

April 23, 2011 | Marty Mossa

Well I must admit, at the start of period three of game five the other night I was ready to write the Capitals’ obituary.  And yes the word CHOKERS came to mind.  But the Capitals scored three third period goals and won in double overtime to take a three game to one lead.  The win on Wednesday night gave the Caps plenty of momentum going into today’s game.

Mike Green scored at 5:59 of the first period to give the Caps a 1-0 lead.  Alex Ovechkin scores a beautiful goal at 7:04 of the second period.  Alexander Semin added the finishing touches on the Caps scoring at 16:23 of the third period to give them a 3-0 lead.  The Rangers scored at 19:28 of the third period, but it was a little too late.

The Caps will take a few days off as they wait to see who they will play next.  Boston and Montreal are tied 2-2, Buffalo has a 3-2 lead over Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh has a 3-2 over Tampa Bay.  Until these series are decided, the Caps will have to wait and see.

Although we can all enjoy this first round win by the Capitals, and although we must take each round one at a time, it would be a bitter disappointment if the Caps don’t at least advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
