Caps Playoff Hopes on Life Support

Disastrous Weekend for Caps

The Caps lost both games this weekend and both were games that they should have earned at least a point. Yesterday’s loss to Pittsburgh was just horrifying as they threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Penguins for two periods only to see Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury stone them and then have their own player, Nicklas Backstrom, put the puck in his own net for the loss with 28 seconds left.

I’ll have more to discuss and analyze over the next couple of days about the team but these two losses coupled with multiple wins by both the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes since Thursday put the Caps playoff hopes in serious jeopardy. The Caps trail Carolina by 7 points in the division race with a game in hand and are 6 points behind the Flyers for the eighth and final playoff spot. With only 12 games left, it looks like the Caps will have to win 10 of 12 contests to make the playoffs. Anybody think they are likely to do that? I have serious doubts considering the way this team has played lately but more on that in my next couple of blogs. Things are looking bleak in DC right now.
