Casey at the bat: Pre-Game Note

May 11, 2007 |

Come on down, Nick Markakis.  It’s your turn on the "take a night off" sweepstakes.

You can’t argue this point though: Nick needs a night off, especially since he is 0-7 lifetime against Devil Rays pitcher
Casey Fossum.

Here is tonight’s lineup:

1. Brian Roberts 2B
2. Jay Payton LF
3. Miguel Tejada SS
4. Ramon Hernandez C
5. Aubrey Huff 1B
6. Melvin Mora 3B
7. Kevin Millar DH
8. Jay Gibbons RF
9. Corey Patterson CF

Sam Perlozzo said that he could carry 12 pitchers for the upcoming interleague play.

Sam said that the team would discuss for another day or so Scott Williamson and his return from the DL.

I want you hear your thoughts on when the love affair with the pitch count began. I spoke with a couple of different people at the park today and would be interested to hear your opinion/thoughts on it.

Casey at the bat: Pre-game note

May 09, 2007 |

Jay Gibbons makes a return appearance to the lineup this evening after being off the last three games. As it has come to be expected, Gibbons is in, which means that Kevin Millar is out.

I will go on the record and say I am a Kevin Millar fan, and feel that there are other ways to get him in the lineup, along with Gibbons. Give Huff a day off, maybe DH Huff, put Millar at 1B, put Jay Gibbons in LF and give Jay Payton a day off. How about Jay Payton takes Markakis’ spot in the lineup?

I will be interested to see what the team decides after Jeremy Guthries’ outing tonight. If Jeremy is unable to make it out of the 5th or 6th inning — or if he is out before then — do you give him another start?

Do you have any better options at this time?

What happens if Burres struggles during his next outing?

Olson is 0-3 in Triple A, has he done enough to be called up?

Just for the record, Hayden Penn is not an option at this time either.

Sam Perlozzo said that there is no concern with Steve Trachsel and his forearm. According to Sam, the medical report did not show any signs of an injury or concern. Steve does have a sleeve over his forearm, I am sure for precaution. The ball yesterday hit him in the arm, then in the stomach, where he has a noticeable red mark.
