We’ll be talking with David Cordish on Wednesday morning (8:05am) and hearing his thoughts on next month’s auction in which he hopes to acquire ownership of the Laurel and Pimlico racetracks.
We spent an interesting 20 minutes with Joe DeFrancis this morning. DeFrancis, of course, was the President of the Maryland Jockey Club from March, 2002 until October, 2009 and was the person who originally helped orchestrate the deal that saw MAGNA purchase the two tracks five years ago.
DeFrancis is now one of the finalists for the auction on January 8.
Cordish is not only a finalist in the auction process, but he is the holder of the slots license in Anne Arundel County and has proposed to build a slots parlor adjacent to the Arundel Mills Mall.
We will talk with Cordish tomorrow about his plans for racing in Maryland if, in fact, he wins the auction on January 8.
