Do you have an extra $15.70 to give me?

January 27, 2011 |

In your wildest dreams, can you envision the “LESS THAN-chiseled” torso of Rex Snider sporting a Speedo swimsuit on a beach? Uh, probably not …. and, trust me, you don’t want to see it !!!!

But, it’s going to happen.

This Saturday, I am honoring a promise. And, more importantly, I will be doing my part in representing a little girl who brings hope and belief to so many people.

At just 3 years old, Chloe Coccia (Co-chee-uh), has battled more adversity than most of us will face in a lifetime. Just weeks before her 1st birthday, Chloe was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Her family responded to this diagnosis by aggressively battling the disease “head on”, and with an unwavering determination to overcome it. Most importantly, Chloe fought and I’m so happy to tell you she’s prevailing …..

Today, her Leukemia is in remission.

Such news is powerful enough to make many of us reconsider a “bad day”, while giving thanks for the health of our own children. Chloe is a winner; she’s an absolute testament to winning a battle.

She’s also a CHAMPION OF CAUSES …..

Chloe was born with Down Syndrome. And, she joins many such Marylanders who serve as inspirations to others. She’s inspiring a team of friends and family to join THOUSANDS of other good souls in braving the cold air and frigid waters of the Chesapeake Bay, this Saturday.

This year, I am part of Chloe’s group; it’s a collection of people who join ranks in an effort to raise awareness and funding for the Maryland Special Olympics. From what I hear, this group defines the meaning of TEAM, as they “plunge” toward achieving the goal of supporting such a worthwhile cause.

I am looking forward to meeting Chloe, and I am definitely eager to embrace her message, while braving the ice water that awaits me. Selfishly, I just wish I could wear a wet-suit. But, I promised to wear a Speedo – in an effort to get YOU to donate toward my efforts.

So, a Speedo it shall be …..

To our WNST listeners, please consider donating $15.70 to Saturday’s “Polar Bear Plunge.” My personal donation page can be found RIGHT HERE

Trust me, we’ll have fun. And, I am more than happy to provide a few laughs at my own expense. That’s right, rest assured some humorous photos of me playing in ice water – in a freakin’ Speedo, will surface in a blog, next week.

I hope you’re able to give toward our cause. But, most importantly, I hope you have a few moments to learn about Chloe and her mission of inspiring others. Her website can be found HERE

Thanks for reading today’s blog. And, thanks for caring …..
