Eaton gone, Albers back

May 22, 2009 | Drew Forrester

Call it Andy MacPhail’s million dollar mistake…or whatever portion of Adam Eaton’s salary the O’s had to pay while the Phillies coughed up the majority of it.

Adam Eaton was released late this afternoon and the O’s have recalled relief pitcher Matt Albers from Triple-A Norfolk.

Eaton’s rotation spot won’t come around again until Tuesday, so the Birds have a few days to make plans.  Don’t forget, Luke Scott can come off the disabled list on Monday, so there are potentially TWO roster moves on the horizon between now and Tuesday when the O’s host Toronto.

Minor leaguers Jason Berken (pitched last night) and David Hernandez (pitches tonight) have both been mentioned as possible replacements for Eaton.  Based on the days-of-rest theory, if either one of those two get the call for Tuesday night in Baltimore, you’d have to assume it’s Berken unless they remove Hernandez from his start tonight.

Chris Waters is also a candidate for a call-up.

And the Adam Eaton era ends with the veteran journeyman posting an 8.56 ERA in 8 starts.

Who cares…we’re not going to win anyway, right?
